JWs Message: ``How Great Are We?"
by Room 215 inwith their chronology in tatters, jehovah's witnesses have taken to preaching about their favorite subject: themselves.
i was taken to task when i made this suggestion in a thread not too long ago, but the october km furnishes abundant evidence in its list of available videocasette.. (as an aside, it seems that the society no longer objects to using the television as a medium to spread its message, now that technology's given it a way to make the viewer pay for tapes, rather than having to spend money on paid programming).. notice the titles: .
``united by divine teaching''.

Lots of Newbies Posting: Welcome!
by Room 215 inmy impression is that recently a lot of erstwhile lurkers have progressed to the ``newbie'' class, and taken the plunge to begin communicating with the rest of us.
a most hopeful sign that thoughtful inquiry and just plain ol' curiosity is still alive, if not exactly well, in watchowerland.
what did god tell elijah, that there was still ``7,000 left in israel that had not bowed down to baal?''.

Hello Bethel! Are You Listening? Wake Up!
by Room 215 inhello bethel,.
by now it's clear to all observers that the organization is running out of steam, especially in the developned nations, and no amount of hyped-up propaganda about ``quick-build'' kingdom halls, standing up to the nazis, lifetime experiences of pioneers, etc., etc.
can rectify.. what's needed urgently:.

JW's Gospet of Incessant Self Praise
by Room 215 inthis observation came to mind in a related thread on cultural changes in the jw community over the years, as the organization evovles from a feisty, intensely radical, militant band of `theocratic warriors'' to a more maintream religion.. as the passage of time has eroded almost all of the plausibilty in the chronological component of their message (remember how big a part of our preaching was ``doing the 1914 drill'' -- you know: 2,520 minus 607, plus no zero year = 1914; ask yourselves how few modern and younger jws can do this by rote nowadays), teh focus has shifte to ``ain't we the greatest?
almost every wt issue runs articles featurng sanitized, idealized, versions of aspects of their modern history.
jws in the concentration camps, the atlanta penitenitary for rutherford and his gang, praise from public officials for jw comportment at assemblies, quick-build kingdom halls, disaster relief for their own kind, lifestyle makeovers, the experiences of oldtimers who unapologetically squandered a lifetime living in nomadic, vagabond poverty out of a suitcase or shuttered away in bethel or a missionary home, etc., ad ininitum, ad nauseum.

Spiritual Menu at Last Sunday's Pep Rally
by Room 215 inhi all, i know this is very long, but it's a word-for-word summary of what was dished up at one of last sunday's supplemental meetings.. it's a boradcast e-mail sent by one of the privileged ticket holders to her gaggle of jw friends.. here goes:.
``interesting (?!
) points from a talk given in greensboro, nc by brookyln, ny speaker this past weekend:.

Commemorating the 2014 Centenary
by Room 215 infor all the philatelists among us, i sure hope the brooklyn-based world government-in-waiting is preparing a commemorative stamp issue to honor the imminent centernary of our lord's presence.
maybe one stamp for each of the detainees in atlanta, capped off by a high-value airmail stamp depicting the rapture that never was?
seriously, how many of you folks out there collect stamps?

Bethel Antiquarian Books: Who Buys?
by Room 215 inhello all; a question:.
the internet vendor, bethel antiquarian books, publishes a price list of old and rare wt publications, not a few of which cost several hundreds of dollars.. my question is on the strength of demand for such material: who buys these things for such prices, and who sorts out the relative scarcity of each so as to establish a fair market value?
i would love to have a copy of the 1934 yearbook with rutherford's embarassing declaration to hitler, but gag at paying $300 for one.

Sept. KM: WT Sanctifies Fiscal Irresponsibility
by Room 215 in``because the world scene is always changing, a family head may be inclined to spend an excessive amount of time on the job, with a view to building up his financial reserves for unforeseen crises.''.
do they seriously endorse living from paycheck to paycheck as spiritually meritorious, a responsible mode of living for heads of families with mortgage/rent payments, child support, health insurance, car payments, utility bills, a food budget, etc.
all this after they ``stack the deck'' against self-sufficiency and independence for the average jw famnily head by discouraging university education or other forms of specialized education so vital in today's complex economy.. that's why so many, even while professing loyalty and submission to the fds quietly come to terms on their own.

``Quality Time'' in Field Service: Fact or Fiction
by Room 215 inbased on comments in various threads, it seems that many of you are acquainted with the various ``dodges'' jws use to strech out their field service time: foot-dragging, driving around on return visits from one far-flung end of the territory to the other, the skilful avoidance of contact with housholders, coffee breaks, etc.
etc.. do you have any impression of how pervasive these time-wasting such practices are, and what proportion of the time reported by jws is actually bogus and not spent productively?
or, put another way, how rare is is to encounter who just loves to go out and who uses his/her time efficiently from beginning to end?.

WTC Charity: A Blown Opportunity by WTS
by Room 215 inapart from the noble imperatives of christian charity, the society's rather tepid response to the need for emergency assistance in the aftermath of the wtc tragedy across the harbor illustrates how calcified the thinking of their leadsership has become.. i know, they've accepted a few overnight jw guests and accommodated some others, but when measured against the magnitude of their resources, these meager photo-op and pr-op gestures are tiny.. by failing to sieze the moment, they blew a priceless opportunity to cut a a firebreak across what they must know will be a maelstrom of publice outrage and criticism when the dateline story runs.
